Bradford S. Cohen joins Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell LLP as a Partner in the Tax, Trusts & Estates, and Corporate Groups

Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell LLP (JMBM) is pleased to welcome Brad Cohen as a partner in the Tax, Trusts & Estates, and Corporate Groups. He will be based in the firm’s Los Angeles office. Cohen previously practiced law at Venable, where he was a partner.

Brad Cohen’s practice emphasizes business planning related to complex corporate and partnership transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, financing and business succession planning, income tax planning, and estate tax planning, all on an integrated basis.

“Brad’s wide-ranging experience in art, entertainment and non-profits, as well as his services to high net-worth clients, make him a valuable addition to our tax and estate planning practices,” said Burton A. Mitchell, chair of the Firm’s Taxation and Trusts & Estates Groups.

Cohen has incorporated his personal commitment to philanthropy into a key element of his legal practice, providing multi-faceted counsel to clients regarding their involvement in charitable endeavors, including developing strategic plans, outlining the associated tax benefits, and identifying the appropriate corporate brands and sponsorships. Cohen acted as principal counsel representing the lead donor who financed the acquisition, delivery and permanent exhibition of the Space Shuttle Endeavour located at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.

“JMBM’s focus on service and results makes it a great place for my practice and my clients,” said Cohen. “The tax attorneys at JMBM are among the best in the industry, and I look forward to working with them.”
Cohen advises artists, private collectors, art investors and dealers on a broad spectrum of sophisticated tax and estate planning issues. He is experienced in counseling clients on the charitable giving of art; sales and loans of art; tax deferred exchanges; sales and use tax; and personal property tax planning for purchases.

His clients include ultra-high net worth individuals and their closely held businesses. He has also represented studios, record companies, production companies and sports teams, as well as high-profile performing artists and behind-the-scenes individuals. Brad’s clients have also included former presidents of the United States and a United States senator.
