Prominent television producer Garth Ancier received public apologies and a seven-figure settlement, the result of a malicious prosecution lawsuit filed on his behalf by Louise Ann Fernandez of Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell LLP (JMBM).
Louise Ann Fernandez, Chair of JMBM’s Labor & Employment Group had previously secured dismissal of the underlying action in federal district court.
As part of the seven-figure settlement, attorneys Jeffrey Herman and Mark Gallagher issued detailed apologies for filing what they now acknowledge were entirely false claims in a lawsuit against Ancier. The allegations contained in the baseless lawsuits were fabricated by Michael Egan, who recently pleaded guilty in North Carolina federal court to running an unrelated Ponzi scheme.
“I said on day one this was all absolutely false and I’m certainly pleased that’s now been admitted by the lawyers responsible for transforming absurd fabrications into a real-life nightmare for me,” said Mr. Ancier.
“Malicious prosecution cases are extraordinarily difficult to win,” he added. “But Louise Ann Fernandez is an aggressive and strategic litigators who succeeded in boxing in our opponents until they had no option but to settle. They were with me all the way.”
