Sacramento, CA–The California Construction and Industrial Materials Association (CalCIMA) announces that Kerry Shapiro of Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell, LLP has been selected to represent CalCIMA as General Counsel.
The CalCIMA General Counsel advises the association on legislative, regulatory, and judicial policies. These include policy issues at the federal, state, and local level. In addition, the position provides legal advice on association management.
Mr. Shapiro was unanimously selected by CalCIMA’s Board of Directors after a solicitation this spring of CalCIMA member law firms. A new general counsel was sought after the retirement in March of Jim Good with the law firm Gresham Savage Nolan & Tilden. Mr. Good served as CalCIMA counsel since 2007.

Mr. Shapiro has been intimately involved with CalCIMA’s legislative efforts the past several years. This includes being the principal drafter of SB 108 (Rubio). The bill provided an amnesty period for mines adversely impacted by the economic downtown to file “interim management plans,” and remain in business under California’s surface mining law. The bill went through numerous amendments in the legislative process. Kerry has recently been acting as both interim General Counsel for CalCIMA and Chair of CalCIMA’s Legal Affairs Committee.
