Marc Marmaro, Founding Partner of Jeffer Mangels Butler & Marmaro LLP
Appointed to Judgeship in Los Angeles Superior Court
July 1, 2010
LOS ANGELES – Jeffer Mangels Butler & Marmaro LLP (JMBM) extends congratulations to its partner and founding member, Marc Marmaro, on his appointment to the Los Angeles County Superior Court, which was announced yesterday by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
“Those appearing in his court will find that Marc brings a wonderful mix of intellect, experience, humor and integrity to his work,” said Bruce Jeffer, Managing Partner of Jeffer Mangels Butler & Marmaro LLP, who added that the appointment fulfills Marc’s life-long ambition to complete his legal career on the bench.
Since the Firm’s inception in 1981, Marmaro has served as the co-chairman, along with Bob Mangels, of JMBM’s Litigation Department, developing the practice group to its current bench of 42 active litigators.
“Marc will make an excellent judge,” said Mangels. “His awesome work ethic and his ability to grasp the most complex business and legal issues will serve him well in his new role.”
No stranger to a court room, Marmaro has tried numerous cases to verdict and judgment throughout his career. He was named California Lawyer of the Year in Intellectual Property by California Lawyer magazine in 2004, the year he and partner Stan Gibson led a team of lawyers in securing a jury verdict of $570 million (including $400 million in punitive damages) and negotiating a subsequent settlement that resulted in a total payout of $1.35 billion to JMBM’s client. The dispute over contract claims and patent rights involving spinal fusion technology involved more than 20 different claims between the parties.
“Marc’s dedication to our clients, our Firm, and the profession has been an inspiration to all of us,” said Burton Mitchell, JMBM’s Assistant Managing Partner. “We will truly miss him, but Los Angeles has gained a judge fully committed to serving the community.”
“Marc is a great lawyer and partner, but an even finer human being,” said Jeffer. “He will be sorely missed by all his partners, including me, but he leaves behind a legacy of excellence and a cadre of first-rate litigators who have benefited from his example of how a great lawyer practices law and conducts himself.”
Marmaro received a J.D. cum laude, Order of the Coif, from New York University School of Law in 1972 and a B.A. from George Washington University in 1969. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
He will remain at the Firm until he is sworn in.
